What USYD already gives you for legal research.

Your library pays for Lexis+ Australia and Westlaw Precision Australia, and public sources say USYD law students can also use LexisNexis Protégé, Westlaw Precision AI research and Harvey. Open each from the library's own link below. Use what you have first; this page shows where CaseSharp fits beside it.

Through your USYD library

Open each one from the library's own entry and sign in with your university account. These hold the authorised reports, the commentary and the citators.

JADE Professional

JADE says university students typically get JADE Professional free. Register at jade.io with your university email to check.

The USYD library pages we read don't say how to get it, so JADE is the one to ask.

It adds alerts, and lets you upload a document to check its citations.

Go to jade.io (opens JADE)

How to get in at USYD

  1. Open it from your library

Start from the library's own link: the buttons on these pages, or the library's database list. Library links are set up for your university's sign-in.

  2. Sign in as a student

Use your university account when the database asks. Some sign-in screens ask for your institution first: for Westlaw AU, ANU's Law Library says to choose Access through Australian academic institutions at the bottom of the screen.

AI research tools

Public sources name these generative AI tools for USYD law students.

Protégé, Westlaw's AI research features and Harvey are generative AI. Your unit outline decides whether you may use them in an assessment, and whether you must say that you did.

Free to everyone, no login

These work wherever you study, on any device, and after you graduate.

Which tool for which job

Most research jobs belong to your library's databases or the free sources. CaseSharp has one row.

Where CaseSharp fits

One narrow job, beside your library.

CaseSharp checks the case citations in your own draft against court records, then links you to read each case on the court's site, AustLII or JADE. Nothing about it depends on USYD, and it uses no generative AI, at any step.

Matches our recordDiffers from our recordNot in our records
Try a check, no account

Paste up to 10 footnotes. Nothing is stored. Or create a free account and check 3 drafts a month, free.

It does

  • Matches each case's name, year, report and court against our records
  • Gives each case citation one of three labels
  • Links you to the judgment on the court's site, AustLII or JADE
  • Leaves the call to you: you confirm each authority yourself

It doesn't

  • Hold commentary, journals or authorised report text. Your library does.
  • Tell you how later cases treated a case. A citator does.
  • Hold all Australian case law. “Not in our records” never means a case is wrong. What CaseSharp holds
  • Write, rewrite or suggest anything in your assignment

Already have JADE Professional?

JADE Professional lets you upload a legal document and check its citations. If that does the job for you, you don't need CaseSharp. JADE Professional features

How we checked

We read each school's public library pages, and the public announcements named on each page, on 13 October 2026. We only list what those pages say. Libraries change what they license, often at the start of a year or semester, so the library's own page always wins over this one.

Spotted something out of date? Email hello@casesharp.ai with a link to the library page and we'll correct it.

Independence

CaseSharp is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Sydney. Names of universities are used only to describe who a page is written for.

No logos, no crests, no partnerships. Nobody paid to be on these pages.

Questions USYD students ask

How do I get into Lexis+ and Westlaw at USYD?
Through the USYD library. Open Lexis+ Australia or Westlaw Precision Australia from the library's own entry for it (the buttons on this page), its database list or its law guide, and sign in with your university account.
Can I get JADE Professional free at USYD?
Probably. JADE says university students typically get JADE Professional free. Register at jade.io with your university email to check. The USYD library pages we read don't cover it, so JADE is the one to ask.
Can I use AI tools in my USYD assignments?
Your unit outline decides, and the rule can differ between assessments in the same unit. Read it before you use any tool, including CaseSharp, and say what you used where your unit asks you to. CaseSharp's citation check uses no generative AI.
Is CaseSharp connected to the University of Sydney?
No. CaseSharp is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Sydney. Names of universities are used only to describe who a page is written for. There are no partnerships, no site licences and no institutional agreements to disclose.
